Research Interests
My research interests include the neural control of cardiovascular function in response to physiologic stress (e.g. exercise, orthostasis) and the impact of neurodegenerative disease on the cardiovascular response to exercise. Previously, my work has explored the effect of arterial baroreflex dysfunction upon cardiac and vascular responses to acute exercise in Parkinson’s disease. I have also been involved in clinical exercise trials investigating the impact of exercise training on disease progression in people with Parkinson’s disease. The relationship between altered responses to exercise, cardiovascular reflex dysfunction, fatigue, and exercise intolerance in people with Parkinson’s disease, as well as how to improve exercise prescription and outcomes for this population and in other diseases, are my primary interests for future research.
