Noelle Martinez, MD MPH, is a primary care-addiction medicine doctor and Advanced Addiction Treatment Fellow at the San Diego VA. She completed medical school at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, followed by residency in family and community medicine at University of California San Francisco and an addiction medicine fellowship at Johns Hopkins. Broadly, her work seeks to affirm the dignity and autonomy of people with substance use disorders and people experiencing homelessness. Specific research interests have included low-threshold MOUD program design, family preservation/interactions with the child welfare system, ethical use of urine drug testing, and improving care for patients during patient-directed discharges. During her fellowship, she seeks to advance care for Veterans through development of San Diego’s Syringe Services Program/Harm Reduction Clinic, as well as through research exploring the medical and ethical dimensions of new policies expanding involuntary holds and conservatorship for people with substance use disorders.
