The Pediatric track of the University of Utah Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship exemplifies the long history of collaboration between the University of Utah and Primary Children’s Hospital. Our Pediatric-focused track began in 2016 and we are proud to have alumni serving in our current program and in other excellent groups across the United States.
Primary Children’s Hospital has a well-established palliative care program, Rainbow Kids, caring for thousands of children since its inception in 2007. Nearly 50 percent are still alive and being followed within the program to date. Our primary pediatric location, Primary Children’s Hospital, is a tertiary referral hospital, with approximately 300 new palliative care referrals per year. Because it is the only tertiary care hospital for children in a five-state area, the full spectrum of pediatric complex chronic conditions is well represented.
Our curriculum for the pediatric track allows flexibility in both the continuity clinic and the engagement with a variety of local resources. The balance of training is 85% Pediatric care / 15% adult care, and we believe that working with adults has distinct benefits for your practice in addition to preparing you for boards. Elective opportunities include rural/indigenous health settings, research, and other options.
