ELIGIBILITY and APPLICATION

To be eligible for the Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship program, applicants must have completed a four-year training in an ACGME-accredited general psychiatry residency or an approved combined program in general and child and adolescent psychiatry. Accepted applicants must have a valid Utah Medical License before beginning their training.


APPLICATION PROCESS 

Applications will be accepted as early as June 1st of the year prior to the start of the Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship. Qualified applicants will be screened and invited for a virtual interview with the fellowship training director and faculty, once a completed application is received. Interviews will begin September 1st of the year prior to the start of the fellowship for all applicants outside of the University of Utah. We comply with the application guidelines found on the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law's (AAPL) website.

Required application materials include the following: 

  • Completed PDF Application Form
  • Personal statement - one to two pages in length that explains your interest and/or experience in forensic psychiatry
  • Three letters of recommendation - one letter should be from the Dean of Student Affairs, one from your current training director, and one from a psychiatrist who is familiar with your work and who can comment on past performance and professionalism.
  • Copy of medical school transcript and diploma
  • Copy of current medical license(s)
  • Curriculum vitae
  • A writing sample such as a forensic case study or a relevant research paper
