ABOUT THE COMPETITION

Calling all medical students!

We are excited to announce that submissions are now being accepted for the Clinical Case Competition of Imaging Elevated 2025.

How the case competition works:

Cases will be presented on Friday, November 21st 2:45-3:45p in HELIX. Each presenter should deliver a 3-minute PowerPoint presentation and include the following information:

  • Short patient history
  • Interesting diagnostic images
  • Discussion of workup
  • Final diagnosis

After the presentation, faculty judges have 1-2 minutes to ask follow-up questions. Scoring is based on the quality of your images and presentation skills. The difficulty of the diagnosis is not a factor in judging.

Who can present?

Up to 15 medical students can present at the case competition. Priority is given to senior medical students (MS3 and MS4), with consideration of MS2s as allowed. Due to high interest levels, MS1s are encouraged to attend the case competition in preparation for applying in future years.

I'm a busy medical student. Why would I do this?

Experience speaking in front of a diverse audience is valuable in any field of medicine, including academic and private practice radiology. Great public speaking skills are advantageous in many scenarios, such as funding requests from a hospital board, contract negotiation, marketing to ordering providers, and giving lectures.

I’m interested. How do I find a case?

Consider cases you’ve encountered on your clinical rotations or during direct interactions with the radiology department. All presenters should be mentored by a radiology faculty member and ideally supported by a radiology resident.

If you have difficulty finding a case or connecting with a resident or faculty mentor, please contact Jessica Colon (jessica.colon@hsc.utah.edu).

How do I sign up?

To be considered, please sign up here. You will need to submit:

  • Your name and e-mail address
  • Your year in medical school
  • Your resident advisor (if applicable)
  • Your faculty mentor
  • The diagnosis you will present

The submissions will be reviewed after the deadline of 10/06/2025 and you will be informed if you are selected as a presenter by e-mail on 10/10/2025.

Please reach out to Jessica Colon (jessica.colon@hsc.utah.edu) if you have additional questions or issues signing up for the case competition.
