Commencement Ceremony

Commencement for the School of Medicine will be held on Friday, May 15, 2020, on the University of Utah Campus. Tickets are required to attend. The ceremony will begin promptly at 10:00 AM and end at approximately 12:30 PM.


Regalia (cap, gown, tassel and hood) can be purchased at the University of Utah Campus Store. The Campus Store hosts a Graduation Fair each spring; Grad Fair 2020 will be held at the Main Campus Bookstore at a date which is TBD. (Graduation announcements, etc., are also available through the Campus Store.)

Line-up/Seating of Graduates

All students who plan on participating/walking in the commencement ceremony must arrive at Kingsbury Hall no later than 9:00 AM. Specific instructions regarding line-up and seating will be provided to students and department directors/coordinators several weeks prior to commencement.

Guest Seating

Guests are required to have tickets to attend the School of Medicine Commencement Ceremony. Seating for graduates, faculty and those requiring disability accommodations will be reserved. (Please refer to Accommodations below.) Additional seating—three people each—is also available in the reserved area for people accompanying those in wheelchairs and/or needing special accomodation. All other seating is open for guests. Guests must be seated by 9:50 AM in order for the ceremony to begin.

Guests without tickets are welcome to view live-streaming of the ceremony next door in Libby Gardner Hall.

Parking and Shuttle Service

Parking and Shuttle Service for the School of Medicine's Commencement is available at the Rice-Eccles Stadium Parking Lot. Families/guests are encouraged to drop graduates off at Kingsbury Hall before parking at Rice-Eccles Stadium to prevent late arrivals for the processional line-up.


The School of Medicine has contracted with a professional photography company to photograph all graduates from the School of Medicine. Graduates are under no obligation to purchase these photographs. Guests may take personal photographs; yet, guests will not be allowed on the floor (stage front) of Kingsbury Hall during the commencement ceremony.
