Senior Residents Present on Viscoelastic Testing and Preoperative Anemia

The Department of Anesthesiology recently held another round of Senior Resident Presentations, offering a platform for residents to share their knowledge, research, and clinical insights.

Dr. Sam Atoa discussed the challenges of “Preoperative Anemia” and its implications for perioperative management. Anemia, if unaddressed before surgery, can increase the risk of complications, including delayed recovery and increased need for blood transfusions. Dr. Atoa’s presentation focused on the importance of preoperative anemia screening and treatment protocols, which can mitigate these risks and improve overall patient outcomes. His research highlights the role of timely intervention in reducing perioperative morbidity.

Dr. Endi Moric presented on “Viscoelastic Testing”, a diagnostic approach used to assess coagulation in real-time during surgery. Dr. Moric highlighted how this method improves hemostatic management, particularly in patients with significant blood loss, by allowing anesthesiologists to make more informed decisions about transfusion and blood product use. His presentation emphasized the growing importance of viscoelastic testing in enhancing surgical outcomes, especially in critical care settings.

Both presentations reflect the dedication and expertise of our senior residents in contributing to the ever-evolving field of anesthesiology. We commend Dr. Moric and Dr. Atoa for their outstanding work and their ongoing commitment to improving patient care through evidence-based practices.
