Celebrating the Legacy of Dr. Michael Cahalan with New SCA Endowment

The Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA) has established a special endowment in honor of Dr. Michael K. Cahalan, former chair of the University of Utah's Department of Anesthesiology. Dr. Cahalan, who passed away in 2019, was more than just a leader in our department; he was a pioneer in cardiac anesthesiology and one of the first to bring transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) into practice, enhancing cardiac care for countless patients.

Dr. Cahalan’s dedication to his field and his patients made a lasting impact, shaping the standards of care and influencing generations of anesthesiologists. This endowment honors his commitment to advancing education and research in anesthesiology, continuing his legacy by supporting future leaders in the specialty he cherished.

To learn more about Dr. Cahalan’s life and contributions to anesthesiology, we invite you to read the Michael K. Cahalan Legacy Circle feature on the SCA website. The tribute highlights his achievements and the deep respect and admiration he inspired among colleagues and students alike.
