Michael Bishop was awarded the Utah Academy of Family Physicians F. Marian Bishop Award of Excellence at our Annual Family Medicine Student Celebration on April 13, 2021. This award is named after the first woman ever named to lead a department at the University of Utah School of Medicine, is awarded each year to a graduating senior who has matched into family medicine. The winner demonstrates outstanding leadership and scholarly accomplishments in the field of family medicine, has shown evidence of active student leadership in family medicine activities, and has demonstrated evidence of superior scholastic achievement in overall medical school studies and particularly in the field of family medicine. The winner is voted on by their fellow fourth year medical students who also matched into family medicine.
Dr. Dylan Cole’s clinic in Moab, UT was awarded the Rural Precepting Site of the Year, and the Intermountain Cottonwood Family Medicine Clinic was awarded the Local Precepting Site of the Year. These clinics are selected by the Family Medicine clerkship team based on student feedback, how many students are precepted at the site, and other factors. Students consistently gave glowing remarks about the excellent teaching and educational experiences they got at these sites. Thank you to Drs. Cole, Spain, Duncan, Tran, and Pradhan for your dedication to medical education and for inspiring our future colleagues. Our clerkship would not exist without high quality preceptors like you, and we are very appreciative.Congrats again on behalf of all of us in Family Medicine on these well-deserved awards!”
