GLOBAL EMERGENCY MEDICINE

 


The Center for Global Emergency Medicine focuses on the dissemination of knowledge supporting the development of robust and equitable healthcare systems locally, regionally, and globally. It accomplishes this through partner-driven longitudinal, collaborative projects based on trust and mutual respect.

Cho Ray Hospital

Utah Department of Emergency Medicine has maintained an active collaboration with Cho Ray Hospital for over 10 years. In 2019, the Diploma of Emergency Medicine was created, which now features online and in-person training for local and regional physicians, as well as visiting physicians from Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi. Residents, fellows, and faculty participate in this long-standing partnership.

Residents have the opportunity to rotate through the Indian Health Service Hospitals in the Navajo Nation. The Navajo Tribe, with over 300,000 members, is the largest Native American tribe in the United States as of the 2020 census. Approximately 170,000 Navajo individuals live on the Navajo Nation, which spans Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado, covering about 15,000 square miles. Global Emergency Medicine faculty and fellows also take shifts at these two hospitals. 


Emergency Medicine Residency 

University of Botswana

Utah Department of Emergency Medicine is developing a collaboration with the University of Botswana. Residents have an elective opportunity in which they will learn from the faculty and residents at the University of Botswana, and experience a very different practice environment and patient population. The Global Emergency Medicine Section and Ultrasound Section are developing ongoing exchange programs for fellows and faculty.
