In conjunction with Representative Ballard, Dr. Jeanette Brown submitted an RFA to the State Legislature for funds for supporting long covid. After experiencing her long COVID symptoms, Holly Olson uses her story on the hill to ask lawmakers for funding. She spoke before the higher education appropriations subcommittee.
Four million dollars were asked and awarded; money will be divided as follows:
- 70% Patient care at the U of U Health’s Comprehensive COVID-19 Clinic
- 20% Education, such as resources for PT protocols, speech therapy protocols, etc.
- 10% Research
People with Post-COVID Conditions (or Long COVID) may experience many symptoms. 1 in 5 people has long COVID. People with Long COVID have symptoms that last beyond three months from the initial infection; they can even go away or return.
Jeanette P Brown, MD, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Division of Pulmonary. Her current inpatient and outpatient clinical focus is on patients with chronic respiratory failure requiring mechanical ventilation due to neuromuscular diseases, including spinal cord injury, ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), muscular dystrophy, and many other conditions.
