The Obesity Fellowship

The Obesity Medicine fellowship is one year fellowship training that focuses on the comprehensive treatment of patients with obesity and obesity-related comorbid conditions. The fellow will hold a faculty appointment while training as a fellow under the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes.

The main obesity medicine rotation will be at the comprehensive weight management outpatient clinic at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City under the supervision of Dr. Juliana Simonetti, an obesity medicine specialist. The fellow will also train with members of our multidisciplinary team which include: a GI/hepatologist who specializes in NASH/Intragastric balloon, a cardiologist who specializes in diastolic dysfunction/cardiac rehab, a pulmonologist with focus in sleep apnea/obesity related hypoventilation, endocrinologists, and bariatric surgeons. In addition, the fellow will have rotations with allied health professionals who specialize in different areas of obesity management such as registered dieticians, exercise physiologists, and psychologists. The fellow will also have the option to take a culinary medicine class at the UUSOM.

Any resident interested should fill out an application at the Obesity Medicine Fellowship Council website and email it to both program coordinator Jamie Smith (jamies.smith@hsc.utah.edu) and program supervisor Juliana Simonetti (juliana.simonetti@hsc.utah.edu).
