Visiting Student Information

The Department of Psychiatry works to host as many visiting students as possible each academic year. We welcome fourth year medical students to apply for the opportunity to complete a sub-internship in two programs: General Adult Psychiatry and/or Triple Board. These experiences provide a great opportunity to get a closer look at the respective program, meet faculty and trainees, and become familiar with the local area.

We are not currently accepting visiting students for the remainder of the current academic year.

2026-2027 Academic Year

The 2026-2027 Visiting Student Catalog is expected to open on April 1, 2026 in the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) Portal, with electives starting as early as June 2026.

All applications must be submitted through VSLO. Once the catalog opens:

  • Applications may be submitted up to two months before the elective start date.
  • Official offers will be issued no later than 45 days prior to the start of the elective, when possible.

For the most up-to-date information, including elective dates, eligibility requirements, and required documentation, please visit the Visiting Student Office website or consult your home institution's academic advisor.

Additional Information

Please note, our visiting student program is highly competitive, with many applications and limited placements available. We encourage all interested students to take advantage of the recruitment opportunities provided by our training programs and to apply for residency training through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) for potential interview and training opportunities.

If you have additional questions, please contact Lindsay Williams or email visitingstudents@hsc.utah.edu.
