About WeCARE

Our Mission

WeCARE is dedicated to fostering a supportive, collaborative, and respectful environment within our department. Guided by our Code of Conduct Pledge, we emphasize accountability, empathy, kindness, advocacy, and a commitment to one another.

Our Goal

Our goal is to build a culture that values professionalism, shared principles, and positive relationships, enabling us to work effectively together as a unified team. We believe that our pledge serves as a foundation for a thriving and resilient department, encouraging all members to engage in partnerships, open dialogue, and collective problem-solving.

Core Values of WeCARE

Commit to being an agent of change by engaging in behaviors that create a culture of acceptance, support, and respect.

Open-Minded

I will receive perspectives of others without judgment, understanding that each individual has unique backgrounds and experiences.

Listener

I will be an engaged and active listener. I will strive to create a safe space for open dialogue.

Reflective

I will utilize careful introspection to better understand how my life experiences impact my views, biases, and behaviors.

Invested

I will invest in creating a culture of respect and support for faculty, staff, trainees, patients, and visitors.

Kind

I will treat others with kindness, dignity, and respect, even if we have differing views. I will not dismiss the concerns of others.

Accountable

I will take ownership of my own behavior and will be accountable for my words and actions.

Role Model

I will model professional, respectful, and empathetic interactions with all those around me.

Advocate

I will be an ally and will stand up for others, especially those that may not feel as though they can stand up for themselves.

Courageous

Even in the face of challenge, I will do my best to address injustice and discrimination.

Expanding Opportunities in Academic Medicine: USTARS

The Utah Summer Training Academy for Rising Stars (USTARS) is a six-week immersive program designed to provide hands-on learning, faculty mentorship, and research exposure for medical students exploring careers in academic anesthesiology and surgery.

As part of our commitment to fostering mentorship and professional growth, WeCARE supports initiatives like USTARS that help future anesthesiologists gain clinical experience, career guidance, and access to world-class faculty mentors.
