MAGPIX Luminex technology enables scientists to measure multiple proteins in a single reaction. The MAGPIX system is a compact fluorescent detection system suitable for medium-throughput multiplex immunoassays. Luminex has gained wide acceptance for use in applications including protein expression profiling, focused gene expression profiling, and disease testing. These instruments analyze the results of fluorescent bead–based assays by separating beads using flow cytometry, exciting them with two lasers, and evaluating the results using real-time, digital signal processing and xPONENT software to distinguish bead color (analyte) and assay signal-strength (PE) fluorescence intensity.

Immunocytochemistry (ICC) is used to anatomically visualize the localization of a specific protein or antigen in cells by use of a specific primary antibody that binds to it. The primary antibody allows visualization of the protein under a flourescence microscope when it is bound by a secondary antibody that has a conjugated fluorophore. ICC allows researchers to evaluate whether or not cells in a particular sample express the antigen in question. In cases where an immunopositive signal is found, ICC also allows researchers to determine which sub-cellular compartments are expressing the antigen.

The Auto 2000 utilizes bright field imaging and dual-fluorescence imaging to quickly and accurately identify and count individual cells. Cell count, concentration, diameter, and % viability are automatically calculated and reported. In addition, cells can be stained with Trypan Blue and manually counted under the microscope.
