Welcome Sherin Shaaban

The University of Utah Department of Pathology extends a welcome to Dr. Sherin Shaaban to the faculty. Dr. Shaaban, whose specialty is molecular genetics, joined the Division of Clinical Pathology as an Assistant Professor (Clinical) in February 2020.

Dr. Shaaban previously worked as a director of the Molecular Genetics Laboratory of Imagenetics, Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and is excited to join the Department of Pathology and ARUP. She had previously been aware of ARUP’s reputation as a major national reference laboratory and its dedication to academics. Dr. Shaaban is looking forward to developing meaningful relationships with other faculty members at ARUP and in the Department of Pathology.

She received her MD and MSc from the Mansoura University in Egypt where she also finished her clinical training at the same Institution. Dr. Shaaban then earned a PhD from the Okayama University Graduate School of Medicine in Okayama, Japan. She later moved to the United States in 2010 and then completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in genetics at Harvard Medical School/Boston Children’s Hospital, followed by a molecular genetics clinical fellowship at Icahn School of Medicine at Mt Sinai, New York.

When not working, Dr. Shaaban enjoys long walks with her dog, reading, traveling and cooking.
