Dr. Vijayalakshmi (Viji) Nandakumar is one of the Department of Pathology’s newest faculty members, having come to the University of Utah at the end of August in 2020. She works in the Immunology section of the Clinical Pathology Division at ARUP and holds the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical)
After earning her undergraduate degree in Biotechnology in India, she then came to the United States and earned a MS in Biology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She then went on to complete a PhD from the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, as well as a fellowship in Molecular Immunology at the same institution. Dr. Nandakumar also completed fellowships at the Mayo Clinic in Infection and Immunology and Clinical Chemistry. Dr. Nandakumar developed a strong interest in Clinical Immunology and Laboratory Medicine while at Mayo.
Dr. Nandakumar has twin 6-year-old boys that keep her very busy, and she enjoys cooking, running and biking. Dr. Nandakumar is excited to be here at the University of Utah and appreciates the balance of clinical, academic and research at the University of Utah and ARUP laboratories. She hopes to find opportunities to achieve this balance and collaborate in the areas of complement and autoimmune diseases.
