Dr. Daniel Albertson has accepted the Division Chief of Anatomic Pathology, effective on July 1, 2022.
Dr. Albertson joined the department in the Summer of 2012 as a Fellow in Surgical Pathology, following completion of medical school at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine and AP/CP residency at Creighton, where he was Chief Resident.
He has held multiple leadership roles as a faculty member, including Program Director for the Surgical Pathology Fellowship, Director of Genitourinary Pathology, Surgical Pathology Resident Rotation Director, Section Head of Surgical Pathology, and, most recently, Interim Division Chief of Anatomic Pathology.
Dr. Albertson always had a natural affinity and passion for the mountains and outdoors. He grew up in Nebraska but would spend summers in Colorado on his grandparent's ranch in the mountains fishing, riding horses, and exploring. For many reasons, Utah was a winner when choosing a location for him and his wife to move and pursue further a surgical pathology fellowship.
As Division Chief, Dr. Albertson's goals, are to continue to grow as a division, retain and recruit high-quality academic faculty, and meet the growing needs of the University of Utah Health, including the expansion of University of Utah Health's West Valley Hospital, Huntsman Cancer Hospital, and ARUP Laboratories. Additionally, he hopes to facilitate the growth of the molecular test menu for solid tumors at ARUP.
Anatomic Pathology's biggest strength is its broad subspecialty expertise. Dr. Albertson is a general surgical pathologist with subspecialty expertise in genitourinary, gynecologic, and solid tumor FISH pathology.
Dr. Albertson has five children; his children and wife are where he finds the most joy. He enjoys coaching them in different sports, such as basketball and soccer. He enjoys skiing, snowboarding, and mountain biking.
