Dr. Qinwen Mao joined the Anatomic Pathology Division in February 2021. She holds the rank of Professor (Clinical) of Neuropathology.
Dr. Mao received her MD and Ph.D. in China before moving to the United States in 1998. She completed a fellowship in neuropathology and held another postdoctoral fellowship in which she studied gene therapy for neurodegenerative diseases. Most recently, she was an Associate Professor at Northwestern University before coming to Utah.
In addition to her clinical responsibilities in neuropathology, Dr. Mao has a research laboratory in JMRB. Her focus is researching biomarkers for dementia; she is also developing a breakthrough biomarker test and working with ARUP to validate the test.
Dr. Mao commented that her experience here with the Department of Pathology and ARUP has been beyond her expectations. She has enjoyed her clinical work, and she greatly appreciates the supportive faculty and administrative staff.
Dr. Mao’s husband resides in China; she has a daughter living in Boston. She loves Utah and enjoys hiking, the sunshine, and mountain views.
