Introducing Dr. Jessica Boyd
Jessica Boyd, PhD, FCACB, DABCC has recently joined the Department of Pathology faculty. She holds the rank of Clinical Associate Professor and serves as Medical Director in clinical toxicology.
Dr. Boyd's main area of focus has been urine drug screening; she was involved in the development of LC-MS/MS methods and workflows to detect drugs relevant for clinical groups including opioid dependency programs, pain management, emergency departments, etc. She is also interested in use of dried specimens for toxicology testing.
She received a PhD in Analytical and Environmental Toxicology at the University of Alberta and completed a fellowship in clinical chemistry at the University of Calgary/Calgary Laboratory Services. After training, Dr. Boyd spent seven years overseeing analytical toxicology at Calgary Laboratory Services (later Alberta Precision Laboratories).
Dr. Boyd enjoys working in the reference lab environment, and ARUP's extensive toxicology menu appealed to her. She also appreciates the balance between clinical service and research available with the Department of Pathology.
Outside of the lab, Dr. Boyd enjoys reading, cooking and going for bike rides. She also plays the violin, and is hoping to join an orchestra here in Salt Lake.
