Welcome Dr. Lucilla Pizzo

The Department of Pathology welcomes Lucilla Pizzo, PhD. Dr. Pizzo joined the Clinical Pathology Division in July of 2024 as an Assistant Professor. She also serves as the Medical Director of Cytogenetics and Genomic Microarray at ARUP Laboratories.

Dr. Pizzo is from Uruguay, which is where she completed her undergraduate and master's studies. In 2013, she was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship for her PhD in genomics of neurodevelopmental disease at Penn State University. She began her fellowship in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics at the University of Utah in 2021 and graduated in 2024. Dr. Pizzo is fascinated by phenotypic variability of genetic disease and aims to translate insights from her PhD into clinical practice. Her focus is on integrating disciplines to understand the combined impact of genetic variants on disease.

Dr. Pizzo was drawn to the University of Utah and ARUP because of the clinical experience in a broad spectrum of disciplines. Outside of work, she enjoys yoga, spending time with her family and taking her dogs hiking in the beautiful landscapes of Utah. If she has time off, she likes visiting the ocean and spending time with her family in Uruguay.
