Underrepresented in Medicine Sub-Internship

Program:

The Division of Pediatric Neurology at the University of Utah is committed to building excellence in our physician workforce. We offer a funded medical student sub-internship in pediatric neurology.

Students of all geographic backgrounds, socioeconomic backgrounds, and life experiences or interest in providing neurologic care to underserved communities are encouraged to apply.

Benefits:

-Four week sub-internship with dedicated exposure to the inpatient general neurology, neuro-critical care, general outpatient, and subspecialty clinics such as autoimmune neurology, complex epilepsy management, and neuromuscular medicine (students may request additional/specific sub-specialty exposure if so desired). Students of all geographic backgrounds, life experiences, socioeconomic backgrounds, and interest in providing neurologic care to u communities are encouraged to apply.

-Residency Interview with U of U Child Neurology and Pediatrics Program

-Financial support for travel, housing, and food

-Access to pediatric neurology and general pediatric grand rounds (free lunch and learning!)

Eligibility:

-Must be enrolled in a MD or DO US medical school program (must be an LCME accredited school)

-Have completed core clinical clerkships prior to start of program and have good academic standing with home institution

-This opportunity is available to all students, with focus being on increasing the breadth of experiences within the University of Utah community. This includes students from all geographic backgrounds, life experiences, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

-Students must be applying at a child neurology residency program.

Rotation structure:

The U of U pediatric neurology sub-internship is designed to provide a broad exposure inpatient and outpatient pediatric neurologic. Two weeks will be with the inpatient general neurology and neurocritical care teams. Two weeks will be in outpatient clinics which may include general neurology, autoimmune neurology, new onset seizure clinic, complex epilepsy clinic, neuromuscular clinic, leukodystrophy clinic, tuberous sclerosis clinic or other subspecialties. Accommodations may be made for additional/specific experiences within pediatric neurology if so desired.
