"Utah also provided wide open space, an entirely new canvas upon which to create a new career..."
-Mario Capecchi, 2007 Nobel prize winner
Here in Utah there is a unique combination of a vibrant research community filled with opportunities and a beautiful natural landscape that enables innovation. Our fellows will lead a research project during the last two years of their program. Each fellow will get to choose their clinical research or quality improvement projects based on their interest and will have ample support from their mentors. At the University of Utah, we have faculty research mentors with a wide range of research experience. Our fellows will lead their project from creation to manuscript preparation.
As a division, we are committed to collaborative research are in invested in the mission of CARRA (Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance). Due to this commitment, we are involved or have been involved in multiple leadership positions including workgroup leaders, Lupus workgroup leader, CARRA registry interns, and finance committee members. The CARRA registry is a prospective database that includes children and young adults with juvenile idiopathic arthritis, systemic lupus erythematous, and juvenile dermatomyositis to learn about long term safety of medications and outcomes. We are dedicated to helping each of our fellows find their unique research home in CARRA to facilitate their collaborative research experience throughout their career.

Utah has many unique research opportunities that our fellows could utilize for their research projects. One of these amazing opportunities is working with the Utah Population Database. This is the world's largest repository of family histories and public health records linked to clinic records. Below is additional information about the Utah Population Database as well as some of the other amazing research opportunities available at the University of Utah.
