Application Process

The University of Utah's General Psychiatry Residency Program offers 13 PGY-1 positions, including one research track, and three rural (Idaho) track positions. All positions are filled through the National Resident Matching Program and applications are accepted only through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS)®, which transmits residency applications, letters of recommendation, Dean's Letters, transcripts, and other supporting credentials to residency program directors using the internet. Applications must be received by the Residency Training Office by December 8 of the year prior to the scheduled starting of PGY-1 year. We review each application individually, and encourage you to apply if you are interested in our program.

Interview Process

Interviews are held via Zoom and scheduled on Mondays from 8am until 4pm. Please plan to attend (also via Zoom) a "virtual dinner" and socializing on Sunday evening with residents. Interviews with faculty and residents on Monday morning/afternoon, lunch meeting with residents, then a virtual tour of Salt Lake City neighborhoods and training sites.

The University of Utah School of Medicine does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, age, religion, color, national origin, sexual orientation, disability, or veteran's status.
