Community Engagement
Community is the backbone of our mission, and we are committed to the well-being of all of the communities we are lucky enough to be a part of, both near and far.
EVENT TABLING
PARCKA values opportunities to table at events to educate and engage with our community about our program, resources, and services. We appreciate that tabling provides us with the chance to connect with our community personally, genuinely, and face-to-face.
We have had the pleasure to table with the following: Clean Slate Utah; Larry H. Miller Company; Rasa Legal; Salt Lake City Farmers Market; University of Utah Addiction Medicine Student Interest Group; Utah Jazz/National Basketball Social Justice Coalition; Utah Pharmacy Association; Utah State Fair; and the Utah Support Advocates for Recovery Awareness.
If you are interested in us tabling at your upcoming event, please contact us at PARCKA@hsc.utah.edu.
SERVICE PROJECTS
Service can often be the glue that holds a community together. Service, even in its smallest form, can make a large difference to the lives of people and communities in need. PARCKA would not be what it is today without the service, solidarity, and support from the local and national recovery communities. Recovery communities are built upon powerful, resilient, and skilled individuals, groups, and organizations and we are proud to give back when we can.
One of our favorite ways we give back is through service projects. We have been able to facilitate seven service projects (as of summer 2023) for community stakeholders who provide direct resources and service to our local recovery community and others in need. Take a look below at our services projects to learn more.
If you are interested in having a service project with us, please contact us at PARCKA@hsc.utah.edu.
The Good Samaritan Program

The Substance Use in Pregnancy Recovery Addiction Dependence Clinic (SUPeRAD) is a specialty prenatal clinic that integrates maternal fetal medicine, addiction specialist, and resource management.
PARCKA facilitated a staff donation drive for patients experiencing substance use disorder and pregnancy and their newborn babies at the SUPeRAD Clinic. Donations included baby wipes, diapers, baby clothes, etc.

The Road Home provides emergency shelter, supportive services, and housing assistance that help individuals and families step out of homelessness.

Carry the Water, An Indigenous Healing Garden
The mission of Carry the Water is to focus on providing a place of ceremony for youth of color, bringing in cultural practitioners and knowledge-keepers to facilitate gatherings centered around restoring healthy relationships.
PARCKA staff donated garden materials (e.g., shovels, soil, etc.) and provided labor to garden development.
The Utah Food Bank
For over 118 years, the Utah Food Bank has stayed true to their objective of serving those in need throughout the State of Utah. They work tirelessly with community partners and volunteers to continue making an impact and fulfilling their mission of Fighting Hunger Statewide.

Soap2Hope
Soap2hope advocates for women, men, and teenagers, who have been sexually exploited and sex trafficked.
PARCKA gathered menstrual products, sexual safety items, and hygiene products. With those materials, as a group we put together hundreds of “hope kits” that are given to those who are currently experiencing sexual exploitation and trafficking.
Ruff Haven Crisis Shelter
Ruff Haven Crisis Shelter provides temporary safe havens for companion animals in order to keep pets and their people together in times of crisis, increase pet retention, and decrease the number of animals entering the shelter system.
PARCKA helped assemble Fix-It Kits that are used to fix broken fences to keep animals from running out of their private yards to decrease the number of animals entering the shelter system.
