Dr. Katherine Arn was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. While obtaining her bachelor's degree in biology at the University of Central Florida, she also studied abroad with Semester at Sea, participated in sea turtle research, and was a member of the collegiate surf team. After her undergraduate education, she cycled 4,000 miles from Maine to Santa Barbara with the charity organization Bike and Build. She then attended medical school abroad at the American University of the Caribbean on the island of St. Maarten. Her interest in infectious diseases and global health grew as she was able to do clinical rotations in England, Vietnam, and the United States. She then completed her Internal Medicine residency at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. She chose to do her fellowship at the University of Utah due to the wide range of exposures and patient populations, as well as the outdoor opportunities. Her academic interests in infectious diseases include travel and tropical medicine, global health, and general infectious diseases. Dr. Arn graduated from the fellowship program in June 2024 and accepted a position as an Infectious Disease doctor with Intermountain Health at McKay Dee Hospital.
Hutton Brandon is originally from Augusta, Georgia. He majored in mathematics and biochemistry at the University of Georgia, then completed medical school at the Medical College of Georgia. He then moved west to the University of Utah where he completed Internal Medicine Residency. He is interested in antimicrobial stewardship and treating infection in patients with substance use disorders. Upon graduation in June 2024, Dr. Brandon joined the Infectious Disease faculty at the University of Utah.
Dr. Sarah Hanson was born and raised in Central Minnesota. After undergraduate at College of St Benedict/St John’s University, she moved to Oregon for Medical School at Western University of Health Sciences. She completed internal medicine residency at The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio where she was chief resident. After practicing as a hospitalist in Cincinnati for two years, Dr. Hanson returned to training at the University of Utah. She enjoys the complexity, variety, and challenge that the subspecialty of infectious diseases provides. After graduating from the fellowship program in June 2024, Dr. Hanson accepted a position as an Infectious Disease doctor at Allina community hospital, Coon Rapids Minnesota.
Dr. Brice Peter was born in Sacramento, California. He moved to Utah at the age of 5 and spent most of his life raised on the Wasatch front. He majored in Microbiology and Cell Science at Weber State University and then attended Podiatry School at Kent State University. Shortly after, he returned to Medical School at American University of the Caribbean in Sint Maarten. He then completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Henry Ford Health System in the Detroit Metro region. His interests are in clinical and laboratory microbiology as well as bone and joint infections. Dr. Peter graduated from the infectious disease fellowship program in June 2024 and is undertaking a 1-year fellowship in critical care at Kansas City.
Dr. Jordan Braunfeld was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He majored in biology at Georgetown University before returning home to obtain his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He then completed Internal Medicine residency at the University of Maryland. He has been interested in influenza and other respiratory viruses since medical school. Dr. Braunfeld completed his fellowship in June 2023 and moved to LA to work with the CDC for 2 years as an EIS officer, with the plan to continue working in public health.
Dr. Snehal Bansod is originally from Pune, India. After completing medical school at Ryazan State I. P. Pavlov Medical University in Russia she moved back to India to work as a physician where she developed an interest in infectious diseases. She completed her internal medicine residency in Queens, New York before pursing her infectious disease fellowship at the University of Utah. Her areas of interest include transplant infectious disease, antibiotic stewardship and tropical infectious diseases. Dr. Bansod completed the infectious disease fellowship program in June 2023 and accepted a position as an infectious disease physician at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health in Washington.
Dr. Vanessa Wormser is originally from Santa Monica, California. She graduated from New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her Internal Medicine training at the University of California, San Francisco in Fresno. She moved to Utah to pursue training in Infectious Diseases and her professional interests include fungal infections and travel medicine. Since graduating from the fellowship program in June 2023, Dr Wormser has accepted a priva-academic position at Intermountain Medical Center in Utah.
