Requirements for Admission
- BS degree with certification in medical laboratory science or a BS degree in biological, chemical, or physical sciences: prerequisites in medical laboratory science courses may be required.
- Two to three years of clinical laboratory experience or research experience is recommended.
- Minimum grade point average of 3.0 is expected.
- International applicants must have a minimum score of 80 on the TOEFL iBT.
- International applicants must take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE).
Deadline: March 15th
All applications, including letters of recommendation, need to be completed online through the Slate Application system. The deadline for all application materials is March 15. Notification of acceptance will be provided before June 1 for the following academic year. Applications will only be considered for fall admission.

How to check the status of your application:
After an application is submitted, the applicant can login to their application status portal at https://futureu.admissions.utah.edu/status to track letters of recommendations, submit additional transcripts and other materials, withdraw their application, and view their decision.
Full-time employees (0.75 FTE or greater) of the University of Utah are eligible for 50 percent tuition-reduction waivers. Some work opportunities are available for full- and part-time employees in the clinical laboratory and research facilities. A limited number of departmental scholarships are available annually. Students learn about these opportunities during their first semester of classes. Information about student loans is available through the University’s Financial Aid Office. Full-time graduate students may qualify for full or partial tuition through the Graduate School’s Tuition Benefit Support Program.
