Program Goals

The Department of Pediatrics is committed to recruiting and supporting prospective fellows with a variety of backgrounds and life experiences. This program fosters a supportive learning community and provides residents the opportunity to explore fellowship options within our pediatric medical subspecialties. 

  • To enhance the educational experience of all trainees in the Pediatric community
  • To foster opportunities for trainees to explore career opportunities in subspecialty pediatrics

Opportunity Overview

2-4 Week clinical training experience within the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah and Primary Children's Hospital.

Gain clinical exposure in a subspecialty area of interest, participate in educational conferences, and be paired with a faculty and fellow mentor in the chosen subspecialty.

We are offering rotations for the 2025-2026 academic year in the following pediatric subspecialties:

  • Cardiology
  • Child Abuse
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Endocrinology
  • Gastroenterology
  • Hematology Oncology
  • Infectious Disease
  • Medical Genetics & Genomics
  • Neonatology
  • Nephrology
  • Pulmonology
  • Rheumatology

Application Information

What Applicants Can Anticipate

  • Visiting residents will be awarded a stipend depending on the length of their rotation. The stipend is designed to help offset the cost of housing and transportation
  • Dates for the four-week rotation are dependent on subspecialties
  • Visiting residents will receive mentorship from outstanding faculty members
  • Visiting residents will participate in activities designed to foster connections within the chosen subspecialty, with our Pediatrics residents and fellows, and more broadly across the University of Utah and Primary Children's Hospital community

 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must have approval from and be enrolled in a Pediatrics, Medicine-Mediatrics, Pediatric-Genetics, or other pediatrics combined residency program
  • The resident must be at least a second-year resident or higher and part of an ACGME-accredited residency program
  • The resident should express a strong interest in applying to a University of Utah fellowship program
  • Unfortunately, the GME office is unable to sponsor any trainees on J-1 visas for short-term electives (less than one (1) year)
