Dear Prospective Applicants,

Thank you for your interest in the Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship Program at the University of Utah and Primary Children's Hospital.

Our program is committed to excellence in training the next generation of pediatric endocrinologists to practice innovative, evidence-based medicine. Our fellowship program is an ACGME accredited 3-year training program that trains individuals for careers in academic and clinical medicine. Our large catchment area ensures that fellows gain comfort with the full breadth of endocrinologic and diabetes care and exposure to medically complex patients from Utah and surrounding states.

Our division’s team of 13 pediatric endocrinologists, 4 advanced practice providers, and 5 fellows are committed to clinical care, research, and education. We pride ourselves on having a comprehensive educational curriculum in order to prepare our fellows for any desired career path. We have weekly case conferences, journal clubs, didactic lectures, invited speakers, grand rounds, and a board review series.  The fellowship has a 100% board pass rate since its inception.  We also provide interdisciplinary learning opportunities through pediatric subspecialty fellow lecture series and joint conferences with adult endocrinology, pediatric nephrology, medical genetics, pediatric urology, pediatric gynecology, and pediatric gastroenterology.

Our fellows have continuity clinics in diabetes and general endocrinology starting in their first year.  They also participate in our subspecialty clinics for Metabolic Bone Disease, Prader-Willi Syndrome, Differences of Sex Development, Gender Management and Support (GeMS), Cystic Fibrosis-Related Diabetes, Single Ventricle Clinic, Thyroid Nodules and Cancer, and High-Risk Diabetes.  Fellows participate in interdisciplinary education through rotation with adult endocrinology, reproductive endocrinology, pediatric gynecology, lipid clinic, and the national reference laboratory ARUP.

The first year of the program is devoted primarily to clinical training, with both inpatient and outpatient activities. The second and third years of the program are devoted mostly to clinical and/or laboratory research. Our fellows have access to research opportunities within and outside the division based on their interests.  Fellows can also pursue a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation or Master of Education in Health Professions degree during their training.

Our fellowship program provides a collegial and supportive environment, where fellows are truly viewed and respected as junior faculty members.  We are committed to supporting our fellows’ pursuit of their passions in pediatric endocrinology in an environment that prioritizes both education and wellness.
