MD-PhD Program
The School of Medicine offers a combined MD-PhD training program to applicants with an outstanding record of achievement and a commitment to a career in biomedical science. At least three additional years beyond the standard four-year curriculum is required to complete the MD-PhD program, and current MD students interested in a physician scientist pathway are welcome to join the MD-PhD Program through their second year.
Application Deadlines
Applications must be submitted to AMCAS between June 1st and November 1st by 11:59 PM, Eastern Standard Time. Applications are available for US citizens or permanent US residents only.
Applicants must meet all of the requirements for the MD program. No exceptions are allowed.

MD-MSPH or MD-MPH Program
The combined MD-MSPH (Master of Science in Public Health) or MD-MPH (Master of Public Health) degrees combine clinical training with the perspective and skills of public health and preventive medicine. The MPH degree requires 45 credit hours of course work. The MSPH requires 55 credit hours of course work and is a research-based degree.
Requirements
Students who wish to apply for the combined MD-MSPH or MD-MPH degree after initial matriculation into medical school must have approval from the Dean of Student Affairs prior to admission into the program. Applications must be made prior to June 30 after the second year in medical school. Students are required to take a leave of absence from the medical school to complete the degree requirement. The leave should be taken between the second and third years of medical school. It is expected that part of the fourth year of medical school will be used to conduct research and write a required thesis or publishable paper for the MSPH degree.
At least one additional year beyond the standard four-year curriculum is required to complete the MD-MSPH and MD-MPH combined degree programs.
Application
A formal application to the Graduate School is required. If a student is accepted to medical school he or she may substitute the MCAT for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) requirement.

MD-MBA Program
The combined MD-MBA (Master of Business Administration) degree is offered through a joint program with the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah. One year beyond the standard four-year MD curriculum is required to complete the MD-MBA degree program. The MBA degree requires 50 credit hours of course work which is concentrated in the fourth year with additional courses integrated into the fifth year.
Application
Students who wish to apply for the combined MD-MBA degree after initial matriculation into medical school must have approval from the Dean of Student Affairs prior to admissions into the program. A formal application to the David Eccles School of Business is required during the third year. Requirements include three short essays, two letters of recommendation, and the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
