Troy Hoff, DO, PhD, Steven Sugden, MD, MPH, and Kristen Pagel, MD, MPH, Join Department of Psychiatry Faculty

The Department of Psychiatry is pleased to announce the addition of a three new faculty - Troy Hoff, DO, PhD, Steven Sugden, MD, MPH, and Kristen Pagel, MD, MPH - who will, in addition to their faculty roles, each have clinical responsibilities within University of Utah Health. Dr. Hoff will be working on the consult service at University Hopsital. Dr. Sugden will begin working in the Adult inpatient areas at University Neuropsychiatric Institute (UNI) while Dr. Pagel will be seeing Child and Adolescent inpatients at UNI.

Troy Hoff, DO, PhD, Assistant Professor (Clinical), earned his medical degree at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, VA. He completed residency training in the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center, where he also completed a fellowship in psychosomatic medicine. Dr. Hoff is board certified in Psychiatry by the ABPN. His interests include neurodegenerative disorders, delirium, and trainee education. Dr. Hoff is pleased to join the team of excellent faculty, residents, and staff at the University of Utah Hospital.

Steve Sugden, MD, MPH, Assistant Professor (Clinical), earned his medical degree at the University of Utah School of Medicine. He completed the Psychiatry Residency program at the University of California, Davis in Sacramento, CA and his M.P.H. at the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Sugden is board certified in Psychiatry by the ABPN and Addiction Medicine by the ABPM and is a Lieutenant Coronel in the US Army Reserves. His interests include addiction medicine, military and veteran medicine, and education. Before joining the Psychiatry faculty, he worked for ten years in residential, inpatient, private practice settings, and Veteran Affairs in Texas, North Carolina, and California. Dr. Sugden is excited to join the team of dedicated faculty, residents, and staff at the University of Utah Neuropsychiatric Institute.

Kristen Pagel, MD, MPH, Assistant Professor (Clinical), earned her public health degree in epidemiology from the School of Public Health at the University of California at Los Angeles and her medical degree from Loma Linda University School of Medicine in Loma Linda, CA. She completed her General Psychiatry residency at Loma Linda - Inland Empire Consortium for Healthcare Education in Loma Linda, CA and then her Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship at the University of Utah School of Medicine and Affiliated Hospitals, where she served as chief resident. Dr. Pagel is board certified in Psychiatry by the ABPN. Her interests include medical education, mood disorders, and mental health integration. Dr. Pagel is thrilled to join the team of fabulous folks at UNI and continue in serving our patients together.
