Pemphigus Panel
Ordering Recommendation
• This is an autoantibody panel for initial diagnostic assessment and disease monitoring in suspected IgG-subtype pemphigus. Pemphigus vulgaris and pemphigus foliaceus are the most common types of pemphigus with blistering and erosive disease affecting skin and mucous membranes. Specific reactivity to the type of desmoglein distinguishes pemphigus subtypes; IgG desmoglein 1 autoantibodies predominate in patients with pemphigus foliaceus, and IgG desmoglein 3 autoantibodies, with or without accompanying desmoglein 1 autoantibodies, predominate in patients with pemphigus vulgaris.
• Order concurrently with perilesional skin biopsy for direct immunofluorescence for initial diagnosis.
• Use for disease monitoring with semiquantitative antibody level assessments and tracking
• To screen for pemphigus along with other possible immunobullous diseases, order concurrently with Pemphigoid Panel, IgG collagen type VII antibody, Dermatitis Herpetiformis IgA Panel.
