Family and caregiver education on bronchiolitis disease process and care. In addition to talking with families and caregivers, and providing written handouts, evidence shows that including video-based teaching, especially for those families with lower health literacy and language barriers, can improve understanding and care of the patient. Bronchiolitis is one of the most common pediatric diagnoses seen in clinics, urgent cares, emergency departments and hospitalized patients. The majority of care revolves around educating caregivers of warning signs and symptoms and what to do for supportive care of the child. The goals were to improve patient/parent experience, education and knowledge, increase satisfaction, and expand understanding of their child’s disease. Additionally, we wanted to standardize caregiver education so that every family received the same, evidence-based education on bronchiolitis management, no matter where they were in the system (clinic, ED, other Intermountain facility, etc).
