Award-Winning Research Demonstrates the Effectiveness of the GSRM Program
Description: At the Annual Society for Advancing Chicanos and Native Americans in Science Conference, Isabella Dinardo, a Senior at the University of Utah, was awarded Best Poster for her research about the effectiveness of the GSRM program. Her findings demonstrated trainees participating in the GSRM program reported an increase in confidence in technical skills and genomics knowledge. In addition, targeted interventions and tailored mentorship led to an increased sense of belonging in the genomics field. Introducing a wide range of students to genomics may serve as a catalyst for building the workforce and advancing the field. Together, the improvements reflect the GSRM’s program effectiveness in preparing scholars for STEM careers.
