Caroline Himbert - Clinical and Translational Epidemiology PhD Student – awarded a Graduate Research Fellowship from through the U which supports graduate students pursuing the terminal degree of their department. It includes a scholarship and tuition benefits as well as part of health insurance.
Caroline’s project is addresses the energy balance-cancer link. Particularly investigating the combined impact of physical activity and body weight on colorectal cancer survivorship. As part of the project, she is also looking into underlying mechanisms including inflammation and angiogenesis-related biomarkers, as well as the gut microbiome.

Patrice Hicks - Clinical and Translational Epidemiology PhD Student – her abstract has been accepted at the American Public Health Association’s 2020 Annual Meet.  The title of the abstract is “Prevalence of Blinding Eye Disease in Geographically Isolated Populations in Guatemala.”
