Imagine a space where game developers, researchers, and health professionals unite to revolutionize healthcare.

The Therapeutic Games & Apps Lab (The GApp Lab) is a dynamic hub where creativity meets healthcare solutions. For the past decade, The GApp Lab has been a world class innovation space where professionals from a variety of industries collaborate to solve healthcare’s most pressing problems, from opioid dependency to type 2 diabetes.

The GApp Lab Fellowship Program at the University of Utah is a unique opportunity that brings together student game developers, known as GApp Lab Fellows, faculty researchers and industry professionals from the Software Development & Systems Design Core (The SD2C).

KEY FEATURES

The program provides a studio, mentorship, and education to empower the fellows to innovate, develop, and research the next generation of digital health technologies.

The fellows work on a wide array of projects, leveraging entertainment and playfulness to encourage engagement and adherence.

Fellows will have exposure to the complexities of designing and developing medical software and its integration with patients, providers, various healthcare platforms and the research that validates its efficacy.

The GApp Lab values health equity, aiding rural and underserved communities and leans heavily into participatory design. It believes that the best educational and health interventions are developed not for a community, but with the community by bringing in community members and patients as co-designers.
