The Department of Surgery proudly announces the appointment of Jeremiah Alt, MD, PhD, from our Division of Otolaryngology-Head/Neck Surgery, as the inaugural Vice Chair for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). Dr. Alt will help build upon the Department’s existing DEI efforts and successes across our clinical, research and educational enterprises while formulating a clear, planned vision for the Department. The inaugural Vice Chair for DEI will work with the Department’s Vice Chairs, Division Chiefs and Program Directors in coordination with the Office of the Associate Vice President for DEI, to actively support and promote this effort in our Department and institution. We thank Dr. Alt for agreeing to serve in this role, and thank all of those in our Department community for their ongoing engagement and look forward to working with everyone as we continue to build a diverse, equitable and inclusive culture within the Department of Surgery and the University of Utah.
