Request a Data Set from the Data Science Service

Clinical research requires easy access to high-quality data, as well as individuals with a sound understanding of the structure and principles needed to systematically analyze complex problems.  Data Science involves the extraction of knowledge from data, and Data Science Service (DSS) aims to provide such expertise to the Health Sciences research community.

Instructions for Requesting Data from DSS

Biomedical Informatics Core

The Biomedical Informatics Core (BMIC) of the Center Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) provides comprehensive clinical and translational research informatics support to researchers through a variety of means, including education, consultation, and service delivery.

Services

The service component of the BMIC supports all arms of the CCTS, providing resources and services for the planning and implementation of translational research. This service focuses on a defined set of applications which are applied across multiple domains to more effectively support researchers. Examples of these applications include:

Biostatistical Support

Study Design and Biostatistics Center Core, Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS)

The mission of the Study Design and Biostatistics Center (SDBC) is to advance high quality research at the University of Utah and affiliated institutions by:

  • Providing expert collaborations for study design, health measurement, and statistical analysis.
  • Developing novel methods and software for advancing clinical/translational research.
  • Providing statistical and epidemiological education to the University researchers.

Concept Proposal Announcement

The Greater Intermountain Node (PI: Adam Gordon) was founded and awarded in late Spring 2019 to expand the existing National Institute of Drug Abuse Clinical Trial Network infrastructure by developing and testing innovative interventions for opioid use disorder, preventing overdose, expanding the settings for Network research, and bringing new research expertise to the Network. GIN is housed within the Program for Addiction Research, Clinical Care, Knowledge, and Advocacy (PARCKA) within the Division of Epidemiology within the Department of Internal Medicine within the University Of Utah School Of Medicine.

Research Needs and Opportunities

1. Further investigate the use of mobile health technology and other digital tools as well as telemedicine, hub and spoke, and collaborative care models to optimize evidence-based treatment for OUD and improve all steps in cascade of care for OUD

2. Conduct implementation research studies to improve the adoption of evidence-based practices

3. Conduct studies to test innovative care delivery models such as bridge clinics, patient navigation models, primary care pharmacy partnerships, patient-centered medical homes (PCMHs), and streamlined admission to treatment to ensure patients receive continuous care to prevent relapse and enhance recovery

Funding Opportunities through GIN

  • Through “Concept Submissions”
  • RAPID proposals and decisions
  • Project scope
    • Tiny: <$500,000 annually
    • Small: ~$1-2 million annually
