University ICU (UICU)
This rotation exposes the fellow to a tertiary care, academic, medical ICU located at the University of Utah Hospital, a level 1 trauma center. Board-certified P&CCM physicians staff this ICU. The fellow and the attending physician work together overseeing patient care, conducting rounds, and educating the residents and medical students that make up the UICU team.
In addition to gaining experience in more common mechanisms of critical illness (ex. sepsis, shock, respiratory failure, gastrointestinal disease) the fellow also cares for patients with more exotic forms of critical illness (ex. complications of organ transplantation, severe organ dysfunction due to rheumatologic diseases, obstetrical critical illness).
