Underserved Electives
Fourth Street Clinic
Fourth Street Clinic located on 400 West and 400 South in downtown Salt Lake City, serves over 5,000 homeless men, women, and children annually. The clinic provides primary care and urgent appointments, as well as mobile health services to specific areas of the city. While all residents rotate at Fourth Street Clinic during their Non-IM sub-specialty rotation, there is also an opportunity to participate in a 2 to 4 week elective experience. Residents interested in this elective will have the chance to design their clinical experience to participate in various aspects of clinical care and contribute to scholarly projects to strengthen the care of uninsured and homeless patients.
Rural Locations
Working with the GME-RUUTE program, we provide rural experiences across Utah for residents. For IM residents, these include sites in Blanding, Park City and Tooele, Utah. The location in Blanding offers a particularly unique opportunity for residents to work across the Utah Navajo Health System (Blanding, Montezuma Creek, Monument Valley) and at a community access hospital to provide primary, acute, and inpatient care. These experiences can occur within the global health and underserved track, and as stand-alone electives for motivated residents.
