New Faculty Spotlight: Dhaval Pau, MD

Dr. Pau

Question: What does your medical background look like?

Response: I am an intensivist and neurointensivist with a background in internal medicine. I started medical school at the American University of Antigua when I was 15 years old and graduated with a medical degree at age 20. I then completed an internal medicine residency at Staten Island University Hospital, Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, and a multidisciplinary critical care medicine fellowship at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. After completing my training, I have worked in teaching and non-teaching hospitals in Alabama, Arizona, and Utah. I also serve as a commissioned officer, at the rank of Major, in the Medical Corps of the US Army Reserve.

Question: What brought you to University of Utah Health?

Response: I was aware of the excellent care provided at the University of Utah Health, so when my wife, who is an endocrinologist, got a job in Utah, I knew I wanted to join the team here at the U.

Question: What is a fun fact about you?

Response: Having started residency when I was 20 years old, I wrote my first prescription for a controlled substance before I could legally drink alcohol.
