Lia Bermudez

Lia, a native to Barranquilla, Colombia, but grew up in Ogden, Utah. Soon after graduating high school, she moved to Texas to attend college and to sample some of the best BBQ in the country. Lia has earned a associate's degree in General Studies from Central Texas College. She intends to continue her education in communications at the University of Utah. Lia worked for the Killeen Independent School District in Texas, where she was passionate about dealing with students with special needs, behavior assistance, and general education students. She enjoyed teaching and providing help to her students; she specialized in Behavioral managment and encouraged her students to complete their education. She strongly believes that a more beautiful world is created through diversity of people, philosophy, culture, and experience. Lia enjoys traveling, spending time with her threee dogs, and being an avid thrifter.

Tashelle Wright Ph.D., MSPH

Tashelle Wright Ph.D., MSPH

Title:  Director Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

Tashelle was born and raised in Utah and daughter to a Ghanian immigrant. She is a first-generation college student who earned a Bachelors in Public Health from Westminster College in 2016, a Masters of Science in Public Health in 2018, and a Ph.D. in Public health in 2021 from the University of California, Merced. As the Director of the Office of Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion she is committed to creating and implementing intersectional, culturally relevant, community-driven, evidence-based programming, training and interventions to: (1) reduce attrition among faculty and students from historically underrepresented populations, and (2) promote recruitment and retention of diverse medical school faculty, staff and students that reflect the demographics of those they serve. Tashelle directs and oversees operations and strategic planning of office initiatives, including development of partnerships with internal and external organizations, and designing content for conferences, professional development, community building, mentorship, and other materials specific to groups from historically underrepresented backgrounds. Her passion is connecting people through diversity and inclusion work and identifying strategies to advance health equity.

Donna Eldridge, MSW

Donna Eldridge, MSW

Title:  Associate Director of Education

Donna is a member of the Navajo Nation and grew up on the Navajo reservation in Shiprock, New Mexico. In 2012, she earned a Bachelors Degree in Social Work from the University of Utah. In 2013, she received her Master Degree in Social Work from the University of Utah. Donna is interested in championing social justice issues and advocating for underrepresented populations. As a Program Manager in the Office of Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion she works on educational outreach for K-12 students. Her programs are designed to stimulate student learning, create an interest in science, and expose students to medicine and related fields to ultimately create a gateway to higher education.

Rawad Farhat, MD, MSPH

Rawad Farhat, MD, MSPH

Title:  Program Manager/ Anti Racism Task Force

Rawad is originally from Lebanon, received her Medical Degree from the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences. She completed her residency in pediatrics and fellowship in pediatric hematology and oncology at the American University of Beirut. She will graduate with a Masters of Science in Public Health from the University of Utah in Summer 2021.Dr. Rawad worked as a case investigator for the University of Utah Department of Family Preventive Medicine and the Utah Department of Health, providing health care education and implementing health assessment protocols at local healthcare facilitators. She's also worked with the Utah Department of Health, conducting needs assessments on health equity resources, coordinating implicit bias sessions, and creating communication plans. As a Program Manager, her role is to ensure a supportive and inclusive environment at the University of Utah School of Medicine and manage to implement recommendations from the Anti-Racism Commission and other inclusion programs and diversity initiatives.

Chris Harris, MBA

Chris Harris, MBA

Title:  Program Manager/ Community Outreach

Chris grew up in Aurora, Colorado. In 2014, he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from Park University and in 2016, received his Master Degree in Business Administration from Webster University. Growing up in a diverse community and experiencing the disparities among social classes and ethnic groups first hand Chris is deeply committed to social justice issues and advocating for underrepresented populations. As a Program Manager his time is spent in the community working on and promoting educational outreach programs for K-12 students advocating for and encouraging higher education. His programs are designed to stimulate student learning, create an interest in science, and expose students to medicine and related fields while providing a mentored pathway to higher education.
