Dr. Derek Dosdall, PhD, was recently named Associate Director of the Nora Eccles Harrison Cardiovascular Research and Training Institute (CVRTI). Founded in 1969, the mission of CVRTI is integration of “professors and trainees across academic departments to nucleate a campus-wide cell-to-bedside approach in cardiovascular 

dosdall labAs CVRTI’s Associate Director, Dr. Dosdall will play a role in the construction of the new wing of the building, with recruitment of faculty to CVRTI, and with continued development of translational therapies and interdisciplinary teams to conduct the groundbreaking cardiovascular research that defines the CVRTI. Additionally, Dr. Dosdall will continue the integration effort between CVRTI, Health Sciences, and Engineering departments and leadership.medicine.” Dr. Dosdall came to the University of Utah in 2010 and has been with the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and CVRTI since 2017. His primary research interest is the mapping of cardiac arrhythmias, which has included work on animal models of atrial fibrillation, and the role of fibrosis in conduction disturbances and the development of atrial fibrillation.

“This is a great time to be involved with cardiovascular research at the U of U!” says Dr. Dosdall. “The cardiovascular initiative, including Cardiothoracic Surgery, CVRTI, and Cardiovascular Medicine, has made tremendous progress.”

Dr. Dosdall received his doctorate in Bioengineering from Arizona State University and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Along with this promotion to Associate Director of CVRTI, Dr. Dosdall also holds appointments as Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, and Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine.
