Association for Surgical Education Linnea Hauge, PhD, Promising Educational Scholar Award
Vice Chair of Education Dr. Brigitte K. Smith (Vascular), was awarded the 2020 Association for Surgical Education (ASE) Linnea Hauge, PhD, Promising Educational Scholar Award. Given annually to an individual who is an early career clinician or MS/PhD educator within five years of practice, senior residents/fellows with at least three clinical years in a surgical specialty are also eligible for this award. Congratulations, Dr. Smith for recognition of what the Linnea Hauge Award represents: an individual demonstrating promise as a future leader and scholar in surgical education.
U of U School of Medicine RealMD Coach of the Year
Dr. Jennifer Cotton (Emergency) was awarded the 2020 RealMD Coach of the Year Award. This new award from the School of Medicine recognizes an outstanding RealMD Coach who promotes a greater sense of meaning, community, and purpose in medical education. The coach selected contributes to students’ self-discovery, is oriented towards purpose, and acts as an example of the positive professional community the RealMD Program strives to uphold at the U of U School of Medicine. Congratulations to Dr. Cotton!
U of U School of Medicine Leonard W Jarcho, MD, Distinguished Teaching Award
This award was established to recognize an outstanding faculty member who has made significant contributions to medicine and to higher education. The recipient constantly strives to improve the quality of clinical care and medical education. For 2020, 29 total doctors were nominated for the Jarcho Award.
