I'm originally from Wales in the UK and moved to the US for residency training. I started out in the US as a preliminary resident at Brown and was lucky enough to join the U of U residency program as a third year categorical resident. I had a wonderful three years at the U and still miss the people and the beauty of SLC. I feel honored to have been able to train there, the training has made me both the surgeon and the person I am today. After colorectal fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic and three years working in private practice, I have settled in North Carolina. I enjoy working at Duke as a colorectal surgeon. I have enjoyed developing the robotic surgery curriculum and working in the simulation lab with the residents. I have three lovely children: Amber, 8, Josh, 6 and Elle 4 months. We live on a little farm with goats, chickens, ducks, cats and a dog. My time at the University of Utah was made special by my wonderful co-residents and the awesome faculty. They taught me not just how to be a surgeon, but how to do that with grace and humility as well as achieve a work life balance.
