Representatives from the University of Utah met with leaders of Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH) to approve new collaborative agreements focused on global surgery activities. The agreement signed by Dr. Eric Kofi Ngyedu, CEO CCTH, Dr. Good, CEO University of Utah Health and Dr. Steve Alder, President Ensign College of Public Health formalizes the possibility of future activities which link the three institutions in work focused on global surgery. The agreement features CCTH as a site of activity for development of Minimally Invasive Surgery training, a center of excellence in Women’s Health, and ENT-focused outreach. Cape Coast will also host an international elective surgical rotation through the University of Utah uniquely developed for the aspiring global surgeon – providing participating trainees with experience in general surgery, OB-GYN, orthopedics, and burn. The relationship between Utah and CCTH initially developed from the multi-year mentoring relationship in ENT outreach (Appiah-Thompson/Meier). The Center for Global Surgery is excited to add Cape Coast to a coalition of partners linked in research and training to expand surgical access in Ghana.
