Passing of Dale G. Johnson, MD, Emeritus Professor and Pioneer in Children's Surgery

I write to share the news that Dale G. Johnson, MD, passed away this week. Dr. Johnson was a pioneer in children’s surgery in Utah and on a global scale. He made indelible contributions to pediatric surgery over his decades of service to the patients of University of Utah Health and Primary Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Johnson served as Surgeon-in-Chief at Primary Children’s Medical Center and Chief of the Division of Pediatric Surgery from 1971 – 2001. He held academic appointments as Professor of Surgery and Professor of Pediatrics with the University of Utah School of Medicine and was given emeritus status in January 2006.

Even after his retirement, Dr. Johnson was a strong supporter of the Division of Pediatric Surgery and the Department of Surgery, including attending Grand Rounds well into his ninth decade. The impact of his dedicated and compassionate service to our institution, students, and patients will be felt for years to come.
Funeral services for Dr. Johnson will be held on Thursday, April 11th at 589 East 18th Avenue, Salt Lake City, with a viewing at 10:30am and service beginning at 12:00pm.
