In many ways, the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery is sustained by the incredible generosity of donors. Their gifts enable our Division to expand educational opportunities, collaborate with other institutions, develop new initiatives, and continue increasing the strength of our program. Here are a few recent highlights for which we are especially grateful:

There has been tremendous growth and progress in the School of Perfusion. Our lead donor, Mrs. Paula Kimble, has made two very generous donations to the school. This has enabled us to continue to offer the very best to our new students… even virtually distanced! As soon as it is safe to do so, you will be able to visit the perfusion laboratory and see a new plaque honoring Paula’s generosity as well as the legacy of her late husband, Don Kimble.

A grateful patient has gifted one million dollars to the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. This gift is being used to establish a new endowed chair within the Division. The generosity of this donation will allow the continued elevation of the Division and assist in attracting and retaining the best and brightest surgeons.

This past winter, our Division Chief and other key leaders and faculty members traveled to Jackson Hole to meet together with patients, donors, former faculty, and our partners from St. John’s Medical Center. More than 30 patients gathered to hear Dr. Selzman, Dr. Fang, Dr. Anna Catino, and Dr. John Ryan discuss the vision for the Cardiovascular Initiative at the University, and to hear Dr. Ryan talk about heart health at elevation.

Finally, a long-time friend and donor of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery graciously gifted us $100,000 to help plant the seed for a future Cardiovascular Institute. We are so grateful for this investment in our future, and we look forward to the continued growth and development toward this vision.
