New Fellow Orientation

First year fellows attend a simulation boot camp that provides training in the management of the difficult airway, vascular access, code leadership, thoracic ultrasound, pleural procedures and ventilator management.  They also take an initial physiology course that teaches advanced physiology as it pertains to the management of complex critically ill and pulmonary patients.  This series is taught using a “flipped classroom” model; a selection of the lectures developed for this course are featured on the American Thoracic Society Website (Home > Professionals > Clinical Resources > Critical Care > Clinical Education > Critical Care Applied Physiology).  First-year fellows also receive a comprehensive summer curriculum on the basics of pulmonary and critical care which is provided by select faculty with expertise in each topic presented.
