The division conducts extensive research in the areas of:

  • Insulin resistance,
  • Obesity,
  • Type 2 diabetes,
  • Glucose and lipid metabolism, and
  • The cardiovascular complications of diabetes.  

Research activities within the division are funded by individual investigator and program project grants from the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Veteran’s Affairs, the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association, and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. We also receive the generous support of individual donors and family foundations. 

In addition to the individual research programs listed below, the Division of Endocrinology plays a leading role in the Utah Diabetes and Metabolism Center, which includes investigators from a variety of backgrounds—endocrinology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, cardiology, oncological sciences, pharmacology, and nutrition—focused on addressing fundamental aspects of metabolism in model organisms and humans
